We are talking about the Echidna, an egg laying mammal native to Australia. Because of their coarse hair and spines, at first glance, it might resemble a anteater or even a relative of the porcupine, but these little Guys descend from a platypus-like species. By the way, the platypus is the only other mammal who can lay eggs.
Echidnas have adapted well to their environment, their diet consist mainly of ants and termites, some may eat worms and insect larvae. They are also long-lived, the record for a captive echidna is 50 years.
