You’ve probably heard of Liger, a cross between a male lion and a female tiger. But have you heard of a Tigon or a Wholphin? Chances are you probably haven’t. Today we are going to look at some of the strangest animal hybrids you likely didn’t know even existed. Let’s begin with:
Jaglion – The offspring of a male jaguar and female lion. These are very rare.
Leopon – A cross between a male leopard and female lion, only known to have occurred in captivity.
Liger- This is probably the most widely known. This is a cross between a male lion and female tigers.
Coywolf- This is a cross between a Coyote and an Eastern wolve. There are a number of different types of Coywolf hybrids out there.
Grolar Bear – A cross between a polar bear and a brown bear. Can occur in the wild as well as in captivity.
Wholphin – A cross between a female bottlenose dolphin and a male false killer whale. False killer whales are actually in the same family as the dolphins.
Beefalo – A cross between a buffalo and a cow. Originally breed in the 1800s.
Geep- A cross between a sheep and a goat.
Mulard – A cross between a mallard and a muscovy duck.
Nurluga – A cross between a Narwhal and a Beluga.
Dzo- The offspring of a domestic cow and wild yaks.
Savannah Cat – The offspring of a domestic cat and a Serval.
Tigon- A cross between a female lion and male tiger.
Cama – When a camel and a female lama mate, they have a Cama. These don’t exist in the wild but are a result of artificial insemination.
Hinny- Are a result of a male donkey and a female horse mating.
Zubron- A cross between a domestic cow and European bison.
Zebroid – A cross between a zebra and pretty much any other species from the horse family (equine: horse, donkey, etc…).
