Munchkin is a pretty new cat breed. Munchkins are characterized by very short legs, a result of a naturally occurring genetic mutation. Even though sightings of short-legged cats have been documented around the world since the 1940s, Munchkins were officially introduced to the public in 1991 by The International Cat Association (TICA).
Munchkins are playful, sweet-natured and very comfortable around people. They don’t mind being handled and are intelligent and even though they are short legged, they can be pretty agile, leap and run normally.
Medically speaking, Munchkins are healthy cats. The genetic mutation that gives them short legs does not cause any serious health issues. Now for the best part, 26 more incredibly cute Munchkins. See gallery below. Enjoy!
